Hostages in Iraq

There's all these hostages in Iraq who keep getting killed. Now, I understand that it's a bad idea to negotiate with terrorists, but why don't they send in the Marines? or the SWAT teams? or whatever? That is what they are there for, isn't it? Or are they just there to protect the oil drills?

Okay, I'm probably wrong here, they probably don't know where the hostages are and all that. It's just that we never see any action taken by the military to rescue these hostages. Why not? If you're not going to negotiate with terrorists(a reasonable idea), then why not send in the Marines?

They're protecting the oil, son. Why - my free barrel of oil came rolling down the street just t'other day! Me and my SUV - riding off into the sunset.

Yes, I take your point.

Hey John, this is Joon. How are you?

I think they don't send in troops because then the terrorist would have no reason to keep the hostages alive.
Or maybe they don't know which house they're hiding in.
