Racism: Why?

I just heard on the television a reference to George Bush speaking at an "African-American church". That sentence pretty much shows you what is wrong with a lot of America. The problem isn't that the church's attendees are primarily African-American: it's that that is the defining adjective for that church. Americans need to stop dividing everything along racial lines. It's not healthy. Just look at any statistic in America and you'll probably see a breakdown along racial lines. What the hell is going on here? If you have to break it down, break it down along economic lines. Race will only cease to be an issue when people stop making it into one.

When you actually spend some time in America and study American history as it relate to Black men and women in America you will then have the answer to your question Why? Until then your comments are spoken from an ignorance that should actually force you to keep quiet less your ignorance is exposed.

I have lived in California for 2 years, and have experienced the difference between America, where everything is divided into racial sections, and Australia, where it's not. Granted, we aren't the best people on earth, but there is much less segregation here that in the US. However, in California, I think there is little division between black and white. What I saw in California was two main groups: the "Old Americans" (african and anglo) and the "New Americans" (Asian and Hispanic). My good friends were almost exclusively "New American", really because I wasn't an "Old American"...
I'm confusing myself, but my point is that I have seen the below-the-surface racism that I believe is far more prevalent in America than in other parts of the globe. Say, England.

I'm not black, I am white and I'm don't see that as an important characteristic. My friends here who are Indian in origin don't see that as an imporant characteristic.

I don't see why I should be any less able to comment than anyone else.

My ignorance has been exposed. I don't care. I am ignorant. We all make mistakes. I just hope you can tell me what mine was. Why do you say that I am ignorant?

Saying you are ignorant is not an insult, don't take it as such. My saying you are ignorant simply means you have no idea about the situation you are commenting on. California is hardly the place that best represent the racist caste system in America. You would need to see more than California to understand the race problem in America, however without actually seing or experiecing more than California you can seek out information on the racist caste system in America or simply continue to read my Blog as it grows and I will help you understand the race problem from the perspective of Black men and women in America.

Thanks for that. I will be looking at your blog.

The main thing I'm objecting to in this post is the descirption of a church as an African-American church. That might be true, but it shouldn't be the defining adjective.

You see LoneAmigo, this again is why I believe you are commenting on something you have absolutely no knowledge of, and you are commenting on it by comparing it to your way of life and the way you view the world in Australia.

Do you know what the most segregated hour in America is?

It is eleven o'clock on a Sunday morning. White folk and Black folk in America have worshipped separately dating back to when Black men and women were dragged across the Atlantic to serves as slaves in America. If you had knowledge about the Black church you would not object to the adjective African-America before the word Church. The Black church as described in one of my recent blogs has served as a structural institution in America that was far more than just a place of worship. It was the cornerstone of the Civil Rights Movement; it was the place where Black men and women found solace in a nation where racism ran rampant.

Lastly, you must understand that the Black man and woman in America have been made to love other than themselves and worship a God that does not look like them. The Black man and woman in America was robbed of our religion, our culture, our God, our norms and our mores and forced to accept all of these things from white folk as our own. Have you ever stopped to consider why Black culture in America in many ways is about rebelling against America? It is because we were never meant to be part of the Big Lie called the America Dream and even to this day there are those who work hard to make sure Black me and women do not attain that which has been sold to us called the American Dream.

You probably mean well LoneAmigo but you have no knowledge of the racist caste system in America.

But that's just it: you are aiding the formation of a caste system by dividing along racial lines.

Anyway, California I think has large racial problems, but the problem there is Latino and Asian Americans, not African Americans.

But still, walk through the poorer areas of Oakland and you'll see America's problems right in your face.
